Biosynthesis of Silver Nanoparticles from Cymbopogon citratus Leaf Extract and Evaluation of Their Antimicrobial Properties

Background: Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) are toxic to microorganisms and can potentially kill multidrug-resistant bacteria. Nanoparticles be synthesized in many ways, such as physical or chemical methods. Recently, it has been found that plant molecules perform the same reduction reactions necessary for production of but a much more efficient way. Results: Here, green chemistry was employed synthesize AgNPs using leaf extracts Cymbopogon citratus. The effects different parameters temperature, pH, volume extract were also tested their absorbance pattern at wavelengths. Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) changed with changes parameters. Changes temperature from 20 °C 60 have highest 0.972 3.893 an SPR 470 nm. At higher pH (11.1), particles become highly unstable irregular shapes sizes. peak shifts right lower level (3.97), indicating smaller compound. We investigated effect on reaction time. sample amount showed most value 0.963 λmax, calculated total formation observed visually color change yellow brownish-black. UV-visible spectroscopy used monitor quantitative AgNPs, showing signature between 400 500 estimated size 47 nm by comparing experimental data theoretical Mieplot. biosynthesized enhanced antibacterial activity against several bacteria, determined based minimal inhibitory concentration zone inhibition. Conclusion: findings this study indicate aqueous C. citratus when silver nitrate is precursor, act antimicrobial property enhancers, which treat antibiotic-resistant Hence, mass synthesis will able increase overall health general population.
